Using LibraryMix Studio.

LibraryMix works with the Music library already on your Mac. It reads your library, builds fresh playlists and then hands those playlists back to Music.

The basic flow: choose an Audit Folder, allow LibraryMix to control Music when macOS asks, then use Rediscover or Radio. The finished playlists appear in the Music app.

LibraryMix Rediscover

Rediscover finds tracks you have played before but have not heard for more than six months. It is designed as a playlist you refresh rather than a one-off archive.

  1. Open LibraryMix Studio and make sure your library audit has loaded.
  2. Choose Refresh LibraryMix Rediscover.
  3. LibraryMix selects another set of forgotten tracks from your own library.
  4. Open Music and look for LibraryMix Rediscover.

Rediscover uses Music's Last Played information, so keeping the library metadata current gives the best result.

LibraryMix Radio

Radio starts with one track you already own and builds a fresh mix around it from your own collection.

  1. Enter a favourite song title and choose Find My Song.
  2. If LibraryMix finds more than one match, choose the exact recording you mean.
  3. Choose how many tracks you want, then build the Radio playlist.
  4. The result appears in Music as LibraryMix Radio - [song name].

If Last.fm discovery is available, LibraryMix can also suggest a small number of tracks outside your library. Your own music remains at the centre of the mix.

Spotify export

After a Radio playlist is built, LibraryMix can export its track list for import into Spotify. Use the Spotify export controls shown with the completed Radio mix, then follow the import route LibraryMix opens for you.

Spotify export does not move or alter the original Music playlist.

Getting LibraryMix playlists onto iPhone or iPad

Because LibraryMix creates standard playlists in Music, how they reach your other Apple devices depends on how you normally sync your Music library.

Apple Music or iTunes Match

If you subscribe to Apple Music or iTunes Match, turn on Sync Library on the Mac and your other devices. Apple says Sync Library can make your music library available across devices signed in with the same Apple Account.

Apple Support: Use Sync Library

No Apple Music or iTunes Match

You can sync music and playlists directly from the Mac using Finder. Apple also supports Wi-Fi syncing after the device has first been connected and configured by cable.

Apple Support: Sync with Finder, including Wi-Fi

Set up Wi-Fi sync

Connect the iPhone or iPad to the Mac by cable, select it in Finder, open General, enable Show this [device] when on Wi-Fi, then click Apply. You can then choose the Music content you want to sync.

Music permissions

LibraryMix needs macOS permission to control Music so it can read library information and create or replace playlists. The first time this is needed, macOS should show an Automation permission prompt.

You can review the permission later in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation.

Audit files

LibraryMix keeps its CSV audit files in the folder you choose. They contain the library metadata LibraryMix uses for matching, recommendations and Rediscover. Keep that folder available to the Mac so LibraryMix can load it again when the app opens.
